It is with a heavy heart that I learned this morning that Fr. Mike “Catfish” Mireau, priest of the Archdiocese of Edmonton, District Chaplain of Edmonton Catholic Schools, a friend, ally, and inspiration in my own work for the Church and schools passed away at 11:15pm last night (September 22, 2014).
UPDATE: The official statement from the Archdiocese of Edmonton on the death of Fr. Mike.
His loss will be felt keenly by his family, his brother priests, and all those he served in the Church, in the schools, at Camp Encounter, and online. I was privileged to attend his ordination, was blessed by his priestly service (he used to celebrate Mass monthly at my parish in St. Albert), and in my position as chaplain, I’ve tried to learn from his service to Edmonton Catholic.
There is so much I’d like to be able say, but nothing really seems to fit just right, so I’ll let Fr. Mike speak for himself:
“Even in our darkest moments, we can have confidence that it’s not going to last forever, and God is not going to let it remain as it is; God will intervene. He certainly has for me.” -Fr. Mike Mireau
